Horrifying real-life news story mirrors continuing DAYS plot

A shocking real-life story in which a Colorado woman stabbed a pregnant mother and ripped the baby from her womb is reminiscent of a current DAYS storyline, proving that sometimes, real life is crazier than anything soap writers can pen.

A parent's worst nightmare is losing a child, and a Colorado mother is currently experiencing that nightmare in the most horrific of ways. After responding to a Craigslist ad for baby clothes on Wednesday, March 18, 26-year-old Michelle Wilkins was attacked with a knife then had her unborn baby ripped from her womb. Days of our Lives fans may find something hauntingly familiar about the story, considering a very similar situation has been playing out on-screen for the past couple of months: Theresa (Jen Lilley) unknowingly had her embryo stolen by Kristen (Eileen Davidson), a shocking plot twist that has yet to come to a head, let alone reach its conclusion.

Wilkins is currently recovering in a hospital after the horrifying attack, but her unborn daughter died during the ordeal, just two short months away from her due date. 34-year-old Dynel Catrece Lane has been arrested for the crime and faces charges that could include attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and child abuse resulting in death.

Whether or not this real-life tragedy will affect DAYS' stolen baby storyline remains to be seen. Many television shows and films have scrapped sensitive stories in the wake of real-life tragedies, but the NBC soap's schedule of taping six months in advance would make storyline changes nearly impossible. At the time of this article, a DAYS rep could not be reached for comment.

Do you think DAYS should try to scrap the Theresa/Kristen stolen embryo storyline? Or do you think the real-life situation and DAYS' reel-life situation are dissimilar enough that it shouldn't be an issue?
